Enjoy watching the full length “14 Days of Galentine’s Day” progress videos

on your phone, facetime style!

I painted 14 gals during the season of love, for 14 days starting from the first of February to Valentine’s Day!

this series originally takes place on my instagram stories as a way for me to celebrate myself as an artist & share my process with my friends who’ve never experienced this intimate and private side of my art making process. after sometime of these videos being on my highlight reels on my page, it disappears never to be seen again so I’m happy to have a permanent home for anyone to enjoy for free!

Volume 1

this series is about a quest to try to find an illustrative style. using open source images and artists works of those I admired to attempt at making something original to myself. after reading the ideas of “steal like an artist” by austin kleon, where he talks about traditional learning where u mimick and copy styles you admire to develop your own voice. in these attempts, the act of discovering new artists and researching different art styles helped excite my artistic endeavors.

what I love about this series is that I get to show off my multidisciplinary talents, this one being in watercolor! I’ve always been intrigued by nature & natural bodies alike, so before I became a primarily figurative artist. I would paint intricate landscapes in watercolor and I fell in love with it’s ability to layer color before transitioning into a different style of layering color in oil painting

overall, I love my gal painting series & it makes me so happy to see myself having so much fun painting in watercolor again, but a huge part of me did not enjoy claiming others art as my own in the efforts to become something I really am not.

I realized besides all these great points that is made from “stealing like an artist” ~ I used this as an excuse to become “marketable” because I would get rejected from a lot of markets and consignment opportunities. In the back of my head I knew that if started a painting series where I held myself accountable for exploring new art styles that eventually... eventually I’d get to a style that I’d be comfortable with to make more art from it and be able to join the markets that have harsh policies on figurative, specifically, nude art.

at heart, I will always be self portrait oil painting artist. most opportunities I will never be able to claim for myself…

I will continue to suck at being an illustrative artist…

and that’s okay

much love,

watercolor lover gurl
